Meet Aileen

IMG_3124.PNG

Aileen Bergin first discovered her love for storytelling while creating skits and playing dress-up with her little brothers in the basement of their home in Northern NJ. In true oldest child fashion, she “directed” many Annie restagings in her early years, but still spent most of her childhood exploring a variety of interests. After being caught doing fan kicks more than a few times in the soccer goal and a fateful play-off game concussion,  Aileen began most of her formal training in the performing arts around age twelve.

Aileen is currently a sophomore at Muhlenberg College, where she majors in theatre with an acting concentration, with minors in Dance, Entrepreneurship, and English. Deciding in high school to pursue a career in the arts, Aileen chose Muhlenberg frighteningly close to midnight on the eve of college decision day, mostly because it felt like home. Highlights so far include becoming a peer writing tutor,  joining the college dance team, serving as the student theatre organization's Community Engagement Manager,  making life-long connections with friends and mentors, and studying at an internationally acclaimed theatre and dance department.

Vocally, Aileen identifies best as a "mixy soprano with a strong pop belt" but continues to explore her range, artistry, and musicianship through a variety of genres and styles.  In college, she has concentrated on training in the classical voice as a soprano with NJ-based voice teacher Stan Dunn of The Singing Actor's Studio and Lauren Curnow Madigan at Muhlenberg College.  She also loves singing jazz, pop, rock, and country.

Aileen's theatrical credits include Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz (Jerry Gibson Theatre), Angelina in an innovative modern production of Trial by Jury (Muhlenberg College), Cinderella in Into the Woods (Delbarton Abbey Players), a tap-dancing passenger in Anything Goes (Muhlenberg Summer Music Theatre), and her personal favorite Laurey in Oklahoma! (Aileen is an avid Rodger’s and Hammerstein fan).

Outside of performing, Aileen can usually be found running with her music playing way too loudly in her headphones, making stickers for her RedBubble page, or whipping up a colorful vegan smoothie bowl. Aileen’s second love is literature. She could talk about Great Expectations for hours on end and believes her affinity for literary and rhetorical analysis deeply informs her work as a performing artist. She may not be able to pump her own gas, but Aileen enjoys living a short commute from the city (and the shore) in northern NJ. She is eager to see what the future has in store for her! Follow her along the ride @aileen.bergin.
